Compliance

Current industry challenges in the Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic has an advanced legislative system in terms of compliance since the enactment of the Law against Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism No. 155-17 and its regulations and standards, based on the recommendations of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). This regulation has introduced new rules to the Dominican commercial practice, among which we can highlight the implementation of the Prevention Manual, Code of Ethics, risk matrix and due diligence processes (Know Your Client). The Regulated Entities created by this law are under the obligation to present and maintain a compliance program that includes detailed policies and procedures, which introduces challenges and will require extensive planning for the establishment of clear policies and procedures, as well as continuous training of the staff.
