Laura Medina began her professional career at Jiménez Peña, where she currently holds the position of Partner and co-leader of the arbitration area.

She focuses her professional practice on the areas of Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution, and Labor Matters, mainly advising clients in the manufacturing and hotel industries, free zones, telecommunications, and aeronautical services.

Medina participated in the drafting of the Law on Commercial Arbitration approved by the Dominican Congress in December 2008. She is currently a member of the Executive Office of the Center for Alternative Dispute Resolution of the Santo Domingo Chamber of Commerce and Production.

Laura holds a law degree Summa Cum Laude from Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE) and a Master of Laws (LLM) from Georgetown University Law Center

Relevant Recent Experience

Part of the team who assisted Alstom Group, Alstom International, Alstom Grid and Alstom Transport. Megabar brought a claim before local courts in the Dominican Republic against Alstom Group, Alstom International, Alstom Grid and Alstom Transport for payment of over €5 million in commissions arising out of a Representation and Consulting Agreement, and indemnity for the alleged damages caused due to the breach of contract by the defendants.

Assisted Celuisma in two subsequent arbitration proceedings initiated by Desarrollos Naco against Celuisma Puerto Plata, Celuisma and Celso Fernández, related to a transaction in excess of US$12 million that involved the purchase of assets and assignment of hotel operations property of Desarrollos Naco. The case has resulted in conflicting awards.
